With the new reissue“The Best of (1964-1965)” by the Zagreb Jazz Quartet, the catalogue of Croatia Records is richer for another excellent jazz CD release.

The recordings were mastered from the original LP from 1968 (or 1975?), released by Alta. The owner of this record company and the main producer then, as now, was Drago Diklić. This CD edition contains eight world-famous jazz standards: “Feel so Fine”, “Arijana”, “I’ll Remember Clifford”, “In Walked Bud”, “Intima”, “I Love You”, “I Love You Porgy”, and “Too Late, too Late”.

The line-up of the Zagreb Jazz Quartet at that time looked like this: Boško Petrović on vibraphone, Davor Kajfeš on piano, Miljenko Prohaska on bass guitar, Krešimir Remeta on bass guitar, and Silvije Glojnarić on drums. The Zagreb String Quartet, composed of Josip Klima and Zlatko Balija on violins, Dušan Stranić on viola, and Fred Kiefer on cello, played as guest string players. Everything becomes clear in an instant to any jazz lover who reads the line-up of the musicians who played on this edition. Namely, this belongs to the elite of world jazz music, and by purchasing this CD, true connoisseurs and admirers of jazz will come to their senses. The atmosphere of that time is very well felt on the recording, and you can also hear the crackling of the vinyl, which gives the whole story additional beauty and atmosphere.
