Mrs. Marta celebrates 80 - and we congratulate her with a special reissue gift

For the first time since 1990, listeners get the chance to once again enjoy beautiful pre-Christmas and Christmas music performed by a seemingly surprising line-up of musicians. After November 1989, Marta Kubišová, re-introduced to the studio, teamed up with the Eben Brothers trio to sing excerpts from the Gospels. These were set to music by Marek, arranged by David and Kryštof, and their instruments were joined by Dalibor Štrunc on the dulcimer, Ingeborg Žádná on the cello / viola da gamba, Petr Hapka on the ninth and the male choir of the Schola Gregoriana Pragensis. A total of fifteen suitably festive parts of the Gospels of St. Luke and St. Matthew were given a sensitively modern form and interpretation. It is a listening experience that is perhaps pop-unconventional, but Advent-glorifying, holiday-celebrating. From “Panno blahoslavená” (Our Blessed Lady) to “Syn Boží se nám narodil” (The Son of God Is Born to Us) or “Prorokovali proroci” (The Prophets Have Prophesied) to “Nastal nám den veselý” (A Joyful Day Has Come), a beautiful invitation to rest and reflection.
