Vinyl version of the successful 2CD compilation
Hard rock music had it tough in normalized Czechoslovakia. The usual long hair, powerful decibels, fiercely electric guitars, expressive singers and blue jeans were not exactly in the socialist trend. This selection brings together twelve recordings easier or harder to classify in the hard rock category with idols in the form of Uriah Heep, Deep Purple or Black Sabbath.
The Prague, Brno, Ostrava or Pilsen scene offered skilful composers, proficient instrumentalists, excellent singers and occasionally stylish lyricists. Instruments, equipment or studios were a general problem, yet it was possible to make still functional recordings, at least partially substituting for concerts, often hidden in rural locations. Synkopy 61, Katapult, J. Schelinger and F. R. Čech, P. Janů with O. Petřina, Citron, Projektil, Olympic, J. Kratochvílová with Motor, L. Semelka with S.L.S., Věra Špinarová and Turbo were sometimes mainstream, spliced on TV or cropped during pressing, but they played.
Thus, let us remember the time of the pioneers of rock progress within the confines of the law of the time, without whom younger and sharper choppers could not have come.
