Not just a memorial concert parade: Chicken 2022 and much more

A recording of a substantial part of the performance of a band that was a continuation of Flamengo in personnel and repertoire in the early 1970s. The original Pavel Fořt (guitar) and Vladimír Guma Kulhánek (bass) found the ideal colleagues in Honza Holeček (vocals, Hammond B3), Jiří Zelí Zelenka (drums) and Vladimír Boryš Secký (winds) to recreate the rock tension of the legendary template. To the updated “Kuře v hodinkách” (Chicken in the Clock) from 1972, listeners get a load of more still essential music. The CD replicates the stage setlist, with cuts from the Spooky Tooth or Colosseum circuit following Week in the Electric City. The second half is a trip to Chicken, with a bonus studio version of the title track.

All in all, it’s a great treat for impressionable old-timers, a lesson for eager young listeners, but above all proof that great covers performed by great old-timers work perfectly. The editing and mastering were done under the direct control of the band, the dense sound is clear and the audience reaction gratefully satisfied. Honza Holeček may have a different type of vocal than Vláďa Mišík once did, but he clearly proves that respectful innovation, full of contemporary energy, is a transgenerational pleasure. A stylish psychedelic cover and a booklet with concert photos complete this successful musical look back.
