Supraphon Release Information

150 minutes of great Czechoslovakian progressive rock music!

The 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s were marked by compositionally and instrumentally sophisticated rock also in our country. The musicians of the bigbít youth from the previous decade turned into adults and sovereign masters of their instruments, solving more complex topics in content and form. The worldwide development, characterized by monothematic albums, loose footage of songs or a narrative stage presentation, contributed to this. Reflections of all this can be found in the home recordings of that time.

The traditionally fundamental role of rock in Prague was greatly complemented by the Brno and Bratislava bands, in the Moravian case based on vocal work, in the Slovakian one using the uniqueness of the talents of instrumentalists. This compilation includes a total of 36 recordings from the catalogues of Supraphon, Panton and Opus. You will find here stylistically probably the most famous art rock ensembles, i.e. Blue Effect, Synkopy, Barnodaj / Progres and Collegium Musicum, but the genre of progressive rock is viewed more widely.

Therefore, there is also the guitar-brilliant Griglák’s Fermáta, Petřina’s Super-Robot or Janda’s Abraxas, and the extraordinary choral C & K Vocal or Ursiny’s or Spálený’s complex artistic uniqueness. The successful album and stage projects of Olympic and Petr Novák then complete the rugged era of rock, overcome by high-quality Czech lyrics and a high proportion of censorship of the less provocative non-sung components of the songs.

The sound has been remastered, and the booklet offers a look back at the art rock era and graphically interesting covers.
