Supraphon Release Information

The ninth full-length album and the first in the second quarter century of Tata Bojs’ existence – this is the album with the ambiguous title “A/B”. ´The fans had to wait four long years after the release of “Ležatá osmička” (The Lying Eight) for the record, and as the cover suggests, it contains a lot of colourful musical flavours that offer many surprises, including many interesting guests and even Mardoš’s main “singing part” in one of the songs.

The band itself describes the album as a pop record, taking inspiration from, among other things, “the contemporary 80s sound”. Don’t be fooled though, none of the above means genre stunts or a foray into the mainstream in the case of Tatas! As we’re used to, the band is still mainly adorned with clever playfulness and a certain lightness in both lyrics and sound. This is suggested, among other things, by the fact that the album, which contains a total of thirteen new songs, features samples from the communication of the “Apollo 13” spacecraft flight or from the “Voice of America” broadcast.

But you will also hear, for example, Oskar Török’s magnificent trumpet in the final track “Noční linky” (Night Lines), Yellow Sisters in several songs, the traditional Parťákovy Smyčce (Parťák’s Strings), Doubravánek and the crowd from the Tata Bojs’ performance at the “Colours of Ostrava”, which has a large space in the bonus song Národní (National).

Perhaps unexpected and surprising guests are two legends – Jan Burian and Marek Eben. These two guest star in the song “Rubik a Kubrick” (Rubik and Kubrick), describing the meeting of two geniuses of modern times at a decadent party.

The album also features the two songs from the previously released maxi-single “Strana A” (Side A), “S ní” (With It) and “Antikvariát” (Antique Shop), but in a completely new mix and with newly sung vocals. Special mention should be made of the song “Běžec” (Runner), the vocal part of which Milan sang and recorded on his mobile phone during a real run for authenticity. The Rubik’s Cube itself was also strongly reflected in the visual concept of the album.
