Supraphon Release Information

A new compilation of music by one of the most legendary Czech beat groups of the 1960s!

The CD captures The Matadors’ complete musical legacy exclusively performed by the classic line-up. Bezloja, Black, Hladík, Obermayer and Sodoma were, and still are, considered stylistic pioneers, as well as an export article – as evidenced by their regular inclusion on foreign compilations capturing the sound of the era.

This January, all the available music was sensitively remastered from the original tapes, with the resulting sound clearly overcoming the limitations of scratchy vinyl and older CDs. The original recordings dating from 1967 and 1968 are supplemented by a special bonus treat in the form of the first-ever release of 2007 concert recordings of the re-formed Matadors line-up.

The booklet contains numerous photographs, as well as Aleš Opekar’s biographical notes and Jan F. Obermayer’s reminiscences elucidating the background to the recorded songs. Forty-five years after the band was formed – and some four decades on from the original release of the recordings – it is clear that some of the finest 60s rock music in Europe was made in Czechoslovakia.

Classic Matadors: 80 minutes of time-proven quality with a refreshed sound!

Kalemegdan Disk Additions

The Matadors were one of the important Beat bands of continental Europe, although their offical discography is not very rich. This CD release contains their Single and EP from 1967 and their only LP from 1968 – all mostly with English lyrics. The recordings were carefully remastered so that this edition offers their music in a surprisingly good sound quality.

The Matadors also released one single and one EP in 1966 and three more tracks on the compilation “Night Club ’67 ” which are not part of this CD. But if you wanted to get an impression about the real position of this Czechoslovakian band, I would recommend Jan Obermayer’s unbelievable meticulous 74 pages documentation with hundreds of pictures at

After the disbanding of the Matadors, Radim Hladík became the creative leader of Blue Effect. And as an additon this CDs finishes with four Matadors’ songs recorded live in 2007 in a good quality under the name Blue Effect & Hosté (Blue Effect & Guests).
