Petřina 75: vinyl reissue of both of his exceptional solo albums

Otakar Petřina would have turned seventy-five in June, but unfortunately he has been playing blues elsewhere for almost a decade. He is most often cited in encyclopedias as a brilliant guitarist, but he was also a master of other instruments, a composer, arranger and producer who strongly influenced our popular music. Collaborations with Václav Neckář and Petra Janů led to their seminal albums in many ways.

Petřina himself then got two solo chances: the albums Super-Robot (1978) and Pečeť (Seal) (1983) are long-playing solitaires, a remarkable blending of diverse starting points. From today’s point of view, it is a miracle that Petřina pushed through this project, which was unusual in form, footage and lyrics for that time. He recorded the up to quarter-hour-long compositions himself (with the friendly help of bass guitar, drums and C & K Vocal) and – together with the lyrics by Zdeněk Rytíř and Pavel Vrba – certainly did not give the listeners anything for free.

He was renowned for studio perfectionism, so his musicianship singing poetic turns, accompanied by many layers of guitars and other instruments, sounds truly introverted, but also quite sovereign. Perhaps slightly reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s opuses in places, but in all respects original music out of category and time.

New vinyl mastering, attractive cover art, a reissue chance by far not only for memory buffs.
