Illés were one of the most determinative Hungarian beat & rock bands who had a huge impact both socially and musically, with their songs being sung and passed on by word of mouth for five decades. Due to their local impact, they were sometimes dubbed “The Hungarian Beatles”.

Illés started during the late 50s as a family music band. After several member changes (and also musical changes), the legendary final line-up was assembled on New Year’s Eve 1964, Then they also started to write their own songs, which partly appeared in films.

After many singles and co-productions, their first own LP was released in 1968. They combined folk music elements with the then latest beat & rock trends and succeeded to be unique with their sound. Illés maintained their success through six LPs until their disbanding in 1973.

Their songs are still relevant today. If they weren’t, the band would be out of the public consciousness forever, but that’s not what is happening: Young people, with the greatest humility and enormous creativity, recreate them, rework them to their own taste, and from these experiments come precious creations.

The 50th anniversary of the formation of the legendary Illés band was commemorated at a Beat Festival in the Papp László Budapest Sport Arena. On 28 December 2014 at 19:00, the legend was back together including Levente Szörényi, János Bródy and Szabolcs Szörényi.
