The legendary band Karhago has shaped 13 famous songs of the inescapable Péter Máté in their own image on this groundbreaking release.

After receiving the Péter Máté award, the band leader Ferenc Szigeti had the idea to pay tribute to Péter Máté’s exceptional life’s work and his immense musical legacy by reworking a whole album of his songs. They also had a personal relationship with the composer. Karthago took part in the recording the 1980 album “Szívhangok” (Heart Sounds), and a few years later Szigeti asked him to work out the orchestral arrangement of their song Requiem – which won the 1983 Villach Kärnten International Song Festival. They have developed not only a working relationship but also a friendship over the years, making the current project much more personal.

The band, which has been unchanged for 43 years, has treated the selected songs of Péter Máté with the utmost respect, recording them in versions that are faithful to the melody and lyrics, but also in a true “Karthago” style.
